Chairman of the County Council

Councillor Richard Butler

Councillor Richard Butler is a member of both Nottinghamshire County Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council. Born in Nottingham, he grew up in the borough of Rushcliffe, where he attended local schools and colleges.

He has a background in retail, advertising, training and has worked for various organisations such as Currys, Nottingham Evening Post and Skills Funding Agency.

Richard has been involved in local politics since 1999, when he joined Cotgrave Town Council and became a school governor. He has held several positions and responsibilities at the county and borough levels, including cabinet member, chairman, and vice chairman of different committees and councils. His personal interests include classic cars, music, and gardening.

The Chairman’s chosen charity is Headway, Nottingham. It is a local charity providing rehabilitation, support and friendship opportunities for people throughout Nottinghamshire living with disabilities following a brain injury. At their centre in Old Basford they empower each person to rebuild skills for life, safe independence and hope for a positive future that isn’t defined by disability.
