Conduct Baseline Travel Surveys
Travel Surveys help schools understand how staff and pupils are currently travelling, and which measures might help at your school.
Guidance:
- Travel Surveys should be conducted annually, ideally in the same month each year (this prevents discrepancies in travel behaviour due to seasonal variation).
- Both staff and pupils should complete a survey.
- Pupil surveys can be conducted by 'hands up' surveys conducted in class.
- Analysing survey data can be a useful activity in maths and geography lessons. See the Safe and Sustainable Travel Activities document [PDF] for more ideas for classroom activities.

Once the results of the 'baseline' surveys have been collected and recorded, targets can be set but this is not essential. Examples can be found here:
