Undertake a Site Audit
Part of the School Travel Planning process involves identifying the things that put off students, staff and parents choosing to walk, cycle or take the bus to school.
A Site Audit can be used to identify gaps for improvements to physical infrastructure as part of the Action Plan (Stage 4).
A useful classroom activity is to print a map of the local area, and then get children to plot their route to school and the locations of difficult crossing etc. (Explore the Safe and Sustainable Travel Activities document [PDF] for more ideas on travel and transport related activities that could be incorporated into lessons).
