New Waste Local Plan

Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council are working together to prepare a new Waste Local Plan which will replace the previous Adopted Waste Local Plan (2002) and the Waste Core Strategy (2013).

The new Waste Local Plan will provide the future planning strategy for waste management in Nottinghamshire and Nottingham until 2038 and will aim to provide sufficient capacity to meet future needs. It will also provide key policies against which future waste development will be assessed.

A timetable for the development of the new Waste Local Plan can be found within the Local Development Scheme.

Examinations of the Waste Local Plan

The Councils submitted the Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Waste Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate on behalf of the Secretary of State, on the 5 March 2024. All submission documents and examination documents are hosted and can be viewed on the Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Waste Local Plan Examination.

Following response to the Inspectors Matters, Issues and Questions, hearing sessions were then held in October 2024. As a result of the examination process so far, the Councils have proposed modifications to the Plan and consulted on these amendments in January and February 2025.

All representations on the modifications have now been submitted to the Inspector, who will consider representations made whilst preparing their report which will include the Inspectors final conclusions on soundness and legal compliance.
