People are being asked for their views on plans to change the future use of Nottinghamshire’s children’s centre buildings to Family Hubs. These hubs would provide a variety of help and support to families across Nottinghamshire.

Family Hubs will provide joined up services to help families support their children from conception through to late adolescence.

Councillor Tracey Taylor, Cabinet Member for Children and Families at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "We want families in Nottinghamshire to have the support they need when they need it. Family Hubs are about making sure that families can easily access advice, help and support.

"We are proposing to change the use of our successful children’s centre buildings so they can provide even more support for families with children of any age, not just families with children under the age of 5. The Hubs would mean that services can work together to support families in one place. We will continue to prioritise giving children the best start, tackling any issues before they escalate, reducing disadvantage and achieving better outcomes for all children and young people.

“We really want to hear people's views on whether they think this is a positive move and we also want to find out about the services and support they would like to see provided locally."

This is about expanding the service and working in a more joined up way by inviting a wide range of services to work together to help meet the needs of families.

For Nottinghamshire, the first Family Hub opened in Retford in April 2023. The council is now seeking views about whether this model should roll out across the county.

To help shape future proposals, the council is seeking views from anyone with an interest in services for children and families in the county to take part in a public consultation which runs until Sunday, 3 December 2023.

All of the feedback will be gathered and considered before recommendations are put to
Cabinet next spring.
