Councillor Keith Girling

Inward investment is the key to our county's growth and a better future. We're already seeing the benefits of it in Nottinghamshire with several high-profile projects that are set to create thousands of skilled jobs and bring in billions of pounds worth of investment. With our unique strengths – robust digital connectivity, central location, and stellar transport links, we are well-placed to attract even more investment that can generate a greener, healthier, and more prosperous future.

Take the STEP Fusion project, for example, which aims to create an almost endless supply of clean electricity, by copying the processes that power the sun and stars where atoms are fused to release energy. This technology developed in the UK could also be exported across the globe. The former coal-fired power station site at West Burton near Retford, has been chosen as the home for this prototype energy plant and a research and development campus and we are proud to have led this successful bid working with our partners.

We're also building new green communities like the ones at Berry Hill in Mansfield and Top Wighay near Hucknall. Plus, we've got big plans to improve our transport infrastructure, including the A614.

But that's just part of picture.  We're part of a massive opportunity to boost our economy and create tens of thousands of new jobs through three big developments: the Toton & Chetwynd East Midlands Hub, Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station Site, and the East Midlands Airport Area. Altogether, they're about the same size as three Olympic Parks

And let's not forget about the East Midlands Freeport which is all about encouraging businesses to invest in an area, creating even more jobs and opportunities.

Businesses based in a freeport can benefit from tax and customs incentives, making it easier for them to trade. It's set bring £8.9bn into our economy and hundreds of millions in retained tax that can be invested back in the region.

All these exciting plans are part of our Inward Investment framework. It's a roadmap for how we're going to grow local investment in partnership, with a big focus on green businesses, sustainable places and making sure we keep and train local talent.

And that's where you come in. We want to hear from you to make sure our plans fit with what's actually happening on the ground. Whether you're a partner, a business, a landholder, or a developer, your feedback is important in shaping our approach.

The consultation process is open until Wednesday 5 July. There’s a questionnaire which only takes about 15 minutes to complete.

So, let's work together to create a new kind of green inward investment. Let's build a greener, healthier, more prosperous Nottinghamshire - a place where people love to live, work, and visit. Your voice can help turn our plans into reality.
