Education Safeguarding, Health & Wellbeing Hub (ESHAWH)

The Education Safeguarding, Health & Wellbeing Hub was established to support schools with work around prevention of harm, health promotion, and reduction in risk. The team is comprised of a team manager and 7 co-ordinators who each have specific areas of responsibility, relating to healthy bodies, healthy minds and healthy environments. The team’s remit includes a wide range of sensitive issues including: radicalisation and extremism; child sexual and criminal exploitation; female genital mutilation; forced marriage and honour based abuse; online safety; bullying in all its forms including prejudice based incidents and hate crime; sexual health and healthy relationships; mental health & well-being; diet and nutrition; drugs and alcohol; smoking and vaping; knives and weapons. We also support schools to develop inclusive behaviour policy and strategies to minimise the need for restrictive practice. The team acts as a central point of contact for RSHE Leads.

The team does not work directly with children and co-ordinators do not carry out casework or observations on children. Advice, information and guidance is provided through a variety of digital platforms including the Schools’ Portal and East Midlands Support to Schools website. In addition, schools and other professionals are able to access free, anonymised bespoke consultations where there are concerns about individual children.

What we offer:

  • Advice, training and consultancy, including signposting to other tried and tested providers
  • Quality assurance of curriculum resources, external training providers and intervention packages
  • Policy templates, lesson plans and audit tools to support you with all aspects of delivery in relation to the team's remit.

We pledge to:

  • support schools to respond effectively and with confidence to the complex range of safeguarding and health and well-being issues which they are required to address
  • engage all our stakeholders in the co-design and production of our own materials and the evaluation of all aspects of our work
  • provide a credible and consistent service offer which is based on best practice and is evidenced-based
  • stay abreast of the agendas, including changes in legislation, regulatory activity, and new and emerging trends.
