About this course
Join us on this fascinating journey into the world of traditional building techniques and how to care for historic buildings. With a mix of theory and practical sessions, you will increase your understanding of tradition materials and skills so that you can confidently find skilled tradespeople to care for your old building. ‘A stitch in time really does save nine’ and this course will be one of the best investments you’ll ever make for your historic building. Designed for owners and managers of historic buildings and anyone interested in finding out more about the built heritage of Nottinghamshire.
Each session will consist of a 1 hour presentation with Q&A, followed by a 2-3 hour practical session, tools provided (work clothes & sturdy footwear required)
Week 1: Introduction to traditional buildings and materials: practical session – traditional lime mixing and pointing
Week 2: Lime mortars, plaster and renders: practical session – traditional lime plastering
Week 3: Traditional wooden windows: practical session – repairing a traditional window
Practical sessions to be held at heritage sites to be confirmed.
Please note, this is a 3- week course, not drop-in sessions. Learners will be expected to commit to attending all sessions.
Please wear sturdy footwear (no sandals) and clothing suitable for practical work and possible inclement weather.
This course is programmed as part of the Miner2Major Landscape Partnership scheme, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
