Stained glass star Christmas decorations
Ingredients
- 50 grams butter
- 50 grams caster sugar.
- 140 grams plain flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp dried ginger
- Crushed hard boiled sweets
Method
- In a large bowl mix the sugar & butter until soft and combined using a wooden spoon
- Beat in the vanilla, then stir in the flour and ginger until the mixture comes together.
- Shape dough into a disc and wrap in cling film, chill for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, separate the boiled sweets into colours and put each colour into a plastic bag, bash sweets in the bag with a rolling pin, to break into pieces.
- Line two large baking sheets with baking paper, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to approx. 3mm thickness.
- Cut out the dough using the star cutter, any other Christmas cutters, or a knife if you don't have a cutter (be careful, especially if there are young children around).
- Arrange the stars on a prepared baking sheet, cut a small hole in the middle to place the sweets into. Half a teaspoon of crushed sweets into the middle of each biscuit.
- If you plan to hang the biscuit up use a skewer to make a small hole at the top of the stars, chill for 15 minutes.
- Pre-heat the oven to 180c/fan oven 160of/gas 4.
- Bake the biscuits for 8-12 minutes, until lightly golden or the sweets have melted, remove from the oven and use a skewer to reopen the holes if they have closed, cool completely.
- Thread a thin ribbon or twine through the holes of your stars, hang on your tree.
