School Minibus
School minibuses are useful during the school day to access off-site facilities or days out. Alternatively, some schools use minibuses to pick up / drop off pupils at the beginning and end of the day and therefore could be used as an initiative in a School Travel Plan.
When considering purchasing or hiring a minibus, schools should be mindful of the following:
- Drivers who passed their test after January 1997 may not be entitled to drive minibuses and may need a PSV D1 Professional License.
- MIDAS Training is highly recommended for school staff driving on a category B license who do not have the D1 entitlement.
- Not for profit organisations can apply for a Section 19 permit which allows the holder to operate transport services without the need for a full public service vehicle operator (PSVO) license.
- Nottinghamshire County Council’s Service For Schools is available to assist with minibus driver and accessible vehicle training, the MIDAS Scheme, Section 19 permit queries and have a fleet of vehicles available to hire. Visit the Nottinghamshire School Portal for more information.
