Deputy Chief Executive and Corporate Director, Place
Adrian Smith joined Nottinghamshire County Council in 2017 as Corporate Director of Place after five years working for the London Borough of Lambeth.
Having worked with disadvantaged communities in the North East earlier in his career, as well as in one of the country's fastest growing rural counties in the east of England, Adrian has more recently held responsibility for place based services in one of central London’s high growth boroughs.
Adrian leads many of our most visible frontline services used by our residents and businesses including highways, transport, waste and recycling as well as cultural services and community services including Trading Standards and community safety. Adrian is also responsible for leading the growth and investment agenda for the county, driving major developments such as High Speed 2 Station, major housing and infrastructure developments and working with businesses to develop our economy.
Having joined the Place Department in 2017, Adrian has led the development of a new and ambitious Place strategy for the Council, translating the vision for growth and prosperity of our elected members into tangible projects and delivery plans. The new department sits at the heart of a wider Place agenda for Nottinghamshire, working with partners to join up place based services to have maximum positive impact on outcomes and ensure that residents and businesses are resilient, growing and prosperous.
"I'm genuinely excited by the opportunities for growth in Nottinghamshire. We have a strong mandate to drive growth and prosperity in our economy and for our residents and I'm deeply proud of the work our new team are doing to deliver this. Nottinghamshire is such a great place to raise a family, grow your future, start or locate a business, the work we’re starting now will help define a new future legacy for the county."
