HS2
HS2 is scheduled to arrive in Nottinghamshire in 2033. It will provide unrivalled connectivity with major cities across the UK and put the county within:
- 19 minutes of Birmingham
- 28 minutes of Leeds
- 39 minutes of York
- 51 minutes of London Euston.
We believe the arrival of HS2 will be a major catalyst for growth in the East Midlands. It will create:
- 74,000 additional jobs and training opportunities with a £4bn economic boost by 2043
- more housing opportunities, with a potential for over 20,000 new homes, including the development of mixed-use 'garden village' developments around Toton
- two growth zones around Toton itself including a high-quality innovation campus and in North Derbyshire to accommodate high-growth business and university research with the capacity to create up to 11,500 high-skilled jobs.
The Government has made available a total of £3.8m over two years to develop the plan around the proposed Hub Station at Toton
Work has started on the fairly lengthy process of creating the locally-led development body to maximise opportunities around the Toton site
In the meantime, we are partnering with development and regeneration specialists LCR on the initial phases of site preparation.
The Council has plans in place, site assembly underway and bids for £100m funding currently under consideration by Government. We expect new developments to start within the next two to three years
