Inform us about an event on or affecting a public road
If you are planning any kind of event which may have an affect on the public roads or pavements, we need to know about it.
Typical events may include:
- festivals
- fetes
- carnivals
- car boot sales
- markets
- parades
- sports/live music events
- street parties
- trade shows
- rallies and races.
There are some types of events or activities which require our permission. We may also be able to help your event run smoothly.
There are hundreds of events in Nottinghamshire every year. There will also be road works and traffic diversions which will have an impact on traffic flow. If all of this activity was not co-ordinated it could cause traffic disruption or accidents or make access to the event difficult. If we know about your event we can ensure that works are scheduled appropriately.
It is illegal to obstruct a public road without approval. So is the placing of traffic signs or event signs whether on the road, pavement or verge. Where traffic restrictions are required as part of the event’s arrangements we will need to agree these details and make any necessary legal orders.
“Where legal orders are required, charges will be applied to cover the County Council’s administrative, supervision, and other costs. Further costs may also occur if a contribution is required towards supporting infrastructure such as additional parking.
The County Council may choose not to apply these charges if the event is wholly charitable, if it is an armed forces event, or if it is a non-profit-making community event. Appropriate evidence will be required to support any application to waive fees.”
