Parking policy
We have adopted temporary residential parking standards which are outlined in the Report to Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways on 12 January 2010 [PDF] until such time as each Local Planning Authority adopts its own standards through the Local Development Framework Process.
In addition, we have produced Residential Car Parking Research for Nottinghamshire – Highway Development Control Guidance (February 2010) [PDF]. This document sets out guidance to developers and others on the demand for car parking space on residential developments in Nottinghamshire. It incorporates the findings of recent research on residential parking, in particular ‘Residential Car Parking Research’ (2007) published by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).
Residential developments over five dwellings
We will normally expect you to apply the Residential Car Parking Research for Nottinghamshire – Highway Development Control Guidance (February 2010) [PDF] paper method to provide your initial estimate of parking demand before you submit a planning application. We will also expect you to supply details of how that demand will be met.
All other uses not covered by the County Council’s adopted guidance: 'Highways, transportation and development' or National Guidance should be individually justified on a sound evidence base.
Queries about parking requirements
After reading the guidance, developers are advised to discuss their parking requirements and site specifications as early as possible with our Development Control Officers who will be happy to assist with any queries. They can be contacted as follows:
