Speed cameras
Safety cameras in Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City area are managed by the Nottinghamshire Safety Camera Partnership.
This partnership involves:
- Nottinghamshire Police
- Nottingham City Council
- Nottinghamshire County Council
- National Highways
- HM Courts and Tribunals Service.
Within this partnership it is Nottinghamshire Police who are responsible for the operation of both fixed site and mobile speed cameras.
The Police make no money from speeding fines. Payments go directly to the Treasury.
Government guidelines state that fixed cameras can only be used where:
- there have been at least three fatal or serious collisions per kilometre in the last three calendar years, and
- the majority of drivers are exceeding the speed limit.
In 2010 there were:
- 33 speed camera sites, (including fixed and mobile), which helped reduce the numbers of killed and seriously injured people by 67% at these locations
- 11 red light camera sites at which the number of killed and seriously injured people reduced by 36%.
