Nottinghamshire Health Walks
Route 1: West Bridgford Town Centre (1.9 miles)
This is a perfect way to start walking for health, if you have been inactive for a while, or if you are recovering from an injury or illness. This walk will take around half an hour to one hour at a steady and relaxed pace. Most of the walk is on surfaced paths that are flat and even, although there are a few gentle gradients along the way. The route is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. This walk is aimed at encouraging people to have some gentle exercise and to keep fi t and healthy. Nottinghamshire County Council is working
in partnership with both St George’s and West Bridgford Medical Practice to encourage patients to walk or do gentle exercise through referrals.
Research shows that walking and being physically active can boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy levels, as well as reducing the risk of stress, depression and many long-term conditions.
This self-guided walk is suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether you are looking for a gentle stroll or something a little more energetic, there is something to tempt everyone to get out and about and enjoy beautiful Nottinghamshire.

Enjoy a steady stroll around the centre of West Bridgford. You will be able to see the grounds of St Giles’ Church, a hidden gem in West Bridgford, with its attractive and ornate architecture. There are lots of cafes and restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat and a drink while walking through the town centre. As you walk through West Bridgford Park enjoy the open space and nature spots. You can also keep an eye out for local wildlife.
Route 2: The Green Line and River Trent (2.8 miles)
This walk will take around an hour and a half to one hour 45 minutes. Most of this circular walk is on flat surfaced paths, with some parts on grassed surfaces. There are a few gentle gradients along the way.

It’s a pleasure to walk near Trent Bridge and look out over the river at your leisure. This route is near to the international Cricket Ground which draws thousands of visitors every year. Step into history and walk along the Green Line, originally part of the Midland Railway to Melton Mowbray and onwards to London St Pancras. The old railway line now provides a green corridor through busy West Bridgford, a haven for wildlife with a peaceful footpath leading through it.
Route 3: The Green Line (2.4 miles)
This route will take around 45 minutes to an hour and a half at a steady and relaxed pace. Most of this circular walk is on surfaced paths that are flat and even, although there are a few gentle gradients along the way. Route 4: Sharphill Wood (4.7 miles)
This walk is for more experienced walkers, who are confident in walking on different levels, with some uneven paths. It should take around 90 minutes to 2 hours.
You will encounter relatively rough and steep terrain at certain points of the route. Some sections can become muddy and slippery, depending on
the weather, so please be cautious. This route is not suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. If you have any questions, please contact your GP for health advice.

- Target Audience: For all ages who are more comfortable with an uneven terrain. Part of the route is not suitable for wheelchair and pushchair users.
You may be able to spot some local wildlife around Sharphill Woods, one of the closest areas of countryside to the City Centre, on the edge of West Bridgford. You will be able to admire the view looking towards Nottingham, and you should be able to see Green’s Windmill and Nottingham Castle.
