Collaborative projects
Local councils in Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands work together on lots of large-scale initiatives, including:
- The £99 million Transforming Cities Fund awarded in March 2020 for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire projects.
- The £121 million Towns Fund, with support from local public and private sector partners.
- The new Development Corporation, working to generate a £4.8 billion economic boost to the region’s economy, as well as 4,500 homes and 84,000 more jobs.
- The D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, with councils working with universities, businesses, and colleges, to increase opportunities and access to jobs, education, and training for local people.
- Our collective response to and recovery from Covid-19, including delivering vital grants to businesses.
- The planned East Midlands Freeport, the only inland freeport in the heart of the UK, which is expected to create approximately 56,000 jobs and boost our region’s economy by £8.4 billion over the next three decades.
- The N2 Environmental Strategy group, bringing local councils together with the Midlands Energy Hub and universities to deliver a zero-carbon future.
- Transport for the East Midlands, providing collective leadership on large scale transport issues and agreeing on major investment priorities.
- The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, which aims to improve health outcomes for local people.
- A prototype fusion energy plant at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station, hoped to be the world’s first.
- Tomorrow’s Nottingham University Hospitals, part of the government’s billion-pound hospital building programme.
