Marketing the Travel Plan
The key to a successful Travel Plan is ensuring that the whole school community (including parents, students, teachers and the local neighbourhood) are made aware of the Travel Plan and its measures.
Local Residents
- Please see the Working with Residents page for more information on how to communicate the Travel Plan with local residents.
Students and Teachers
- Assemblies are a great opportunity to tell students and teachers about the initiatives you are implementing. Some example assemblies can be found here.
- Information about safe and sustainable travel can also be built into lessons. Please see the downloadable lesson plans.
- Staff meetings should be used to inform teachers about the planned initiatives.
Parents
- Parents should be informed of the Travel Plan when it is first launched (see example launch letter [PDF]), as well as kept up to date with the Travel plan’s progress. Newsletters and / or social media updates are effective tools.
- Parents who feel they have ownership and responsibility for safe and sustainable travel often respond better to the measures adopted. Walking pledges [Word], parking pledges [Word] and cycle agreements [Word] are good techniques.
New students / parents
- All new starters should be informed of the Travel Plan and its intentions. The school prospectus, or website is a good way of doing this. Additionally, a welcome letter [Word] could be sent to new starters.
