Walking
Walking to school has loads of great benefits:
- It helps pupils achieve their goal of 60 minutes of exercise per day, and sets them up for the day ahead.
- It is sociable. Children love walking with their friends, and it provides a valuable opportunity for parents to catch up with their children before / after school.
More pupils walking to school helps reduce congestion and pollution outside the school gates, as well as keeps the roads free for residents.
There are lots of activities and initiatives available for schools to try out. One way to make walking to school day’s fun is to do in combination with non-uniform day, or fancy dress walks at certain times of year (e.g. Easter, Halloween, Christmas).
